58. December 2011: Lalo Borja

I have been involved in photography since 1975 and find this art of ours a box full of surprises. I have specialized in portraiture for the last twenty five years and have found by exploring old photographic techniques in the darkroom, I can produce images of beauty and mystery. In the past three years I have been experimenting with paper negatives printed from medium format negatives. I have managed this transformation by a simple method of exposure and, by extension, converted them to callotypes. By allowing some irregularities of chemistry runoff and certain imperfections the resulting prints are of an intriguing nature and texture.
