Bad news for Polaroid packfilm
« on: November 15, 2017, 10:56:38 AM »
The hopes of a revival of the 100 type Polaroid packfilm is dwindling, read the statement from the CEO of Polaroid originals:

I gave up on my dream of having an FB3000 b&w a while ago.

I find it a shame thought that all those cameras won't be of any use anymore.
This somehow makes me wish so much that that kickstarter for Instax backs for old cameras succeeds

I hope it was not this issue that kept you awake, Francois.  :-\
I shot some expired Fuji and Polaroid packfilm some weeks ago, I posted some in the weekend thread. The Fuji films were fine even though they had expired 18 years ago, while the Polaroid from 2008 was quite bad. Those of us who are lucky enough to have a stash of Fuji films in the fridge do not have to use these in a panic, they will last for quite a while yet. As for the re-use of these cameras I suppose that our imagination is the only obstacle.

I haven't tried this yet, I still have a good stash of pack film, but it seems like it wouldn't be hard to load some cut down sheet film into an old pack to at least get one shot at a time.  It may take some modification of the pack to get it in there easily.

You can get all Fomapan films in 9x12cm sheets, cut those in half and you have 6x9 format. They will fit into an old 6x9 cut film holder like the ones made for Mamiya Press. Maco makes an orthochromatic film meant for electron microscopy in 6,5x9cm, ISO 25.

I have loaded 4x5 sheets into my Polaroid Land 800. They fit surprisingly well and stay in place once the back is closed. The image is smaller than the sheet of course, but I like the nice round corners.

Nice! Not so easy to change film in the field unless you carry a changing bag.

What surprises me is that nobody has produced a serious product that allows you to use modern film with these cameras...

Anybody know someone with a 3D printer?  ::)

Sadly not. That would have been an easy fix in a way. I always keep a pen and paper handy so I can take note of my nightly ideas and get back to sleep.
Last night was pretty noisy with dogs barking and firetrucks going by.
