Weekend 24-26 November 2017
« on: November 24, 2017, 06:43:50 AM »
I haven't started one of these for ages.....

Mine are from a trip to Manchester to see Deep Purple last weekend. Shots taken at Bakewell on an unplanned visit on the scenic route home to Essex.  Camera - Voigtlander Vitomatic II (will be on its way to James Harr as part of the Feel the Love thread this weekend - I just had to get the film out of it). Film - some old Portra 400.  I didn't like the colour much - possibly old film but more likely not very good processing by a high street lab.

I like the darkness and semi-abstraction of that first one, LD.

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

02Pilot, I love the tones and composition of that shot! Wow!

Indofunk let me borrow an Olympus XA to test it out, as I sort of want a rangefinder. I've put a couple of rolls through it, (3, actually, but one of them was completely damaged after it fell down from my office's window and cracked open. Don't ask why.

This was taken at Grand Central using Rollei CR200, cross processed. There was light damage through most of the frames since the film wasn't properly spooled into the reel, and also, it took me way too long to load it and light was entering from under the door.

This was taken using Kodak Tri-X 400, exposed at 800 by mistake (the ASA lever was moved by mistake) and developed regularly with Ilfotec DD-X.

So far I like the XA in terms of how practical it is and whatnot, but focusing is such a bitch.

The weekend already?

Got some scans back. It's been so long since I've had anything developed, I'm going through shots I took months ago. These were at least somewhat recent - a weekend in Maine a few weeks ago. Pentax K1000, Portra 160 (I believe).

Love the colours Kevin!

I spent this past week in Montreal and finally got back to taking photos. Here are just a few frames from the 6 rolls I shot over 6 days. (all on the Leica m2 with a CV 35 1.4.) Please forgive my hasty, poor framing of the 2nd image.

Kevin, that Velvia looks nice. I found the 100F a little too magenta in the shadows for my taste, but in good light it really works.

Got two shots from a walk in the rain around the neighbourhood. Zeiss Ikon ZM, Sonnar 50mm, Kodak Tri-X at 1600

My niece and nephew spend the Thanksgiving holiday with us each year. Even though they're both now in their mid-40s, in my mind's eye they're still young children as they were when I first met them. I tend to get wistful and find myself spending a lot of time digging through the archive, looking at pictures of them as well as my own kids.

Mamiya C3 TLR, probably the 135 f4.5, and Kodacolor 400

I agree entirely - this was the only shot on the roll, where I didn't need to make extensive colour adjustments. I purchased three expired rolls of what I thought was Velvia 100 for £2 each and was disappointed when I realised they were the F variety.

My recent quasi-scientific comparison of Ilford FP4 Plus and Arista EDU 100 (Foma?), leads me to believe that it doesn’t much matter.  Each has its look and—maybe this matters some—price.  In my preferred developer (Caffenol C-L), the Arista film yielded more shadow detail.  It’s also significantly less expensive.  On the other hand, the Ilford film has a distinctive quality that is hard to describe and, to my eyes at least, very beautiful.  This quality is most obvious in photos with a wide range, such as the communications tower photo.

Both photos were made in an Olympus OM1 with a 50mm Zuiko lens.  The first was on Arista EDU 100; the second on Ilford FP4 Plus.  Both films were developed in the same tank, at the same time in Caffenol C-L, semi-stand.

From a walk on the Torrey Pines beach. This cliff is about 3 inches high. I love the Nikkor-O-C 50mm lens for my Bronica S2a. It focuses close and the OOF is beautiful. Also, I think I will never develop Acros with anything other than Caffenol from now on. Every time I use something else, I am disappointed that it doesn't look like Caffenol.

Mine's a little snap from a drive down old Route 66 in Albuquerque.
The city has had the entire strip under construction for the past year in order to improve the bus lanes...eh, we shall see.
anyways here's a drive by of an old motel on the west end made with a vivitar Ultra Wide and slim and some Fp4 in caffenol.
