Weekend "once every other St. Swithun's Day"
« on: July 14, 2017, 03:20:28 PM »
I get to start.

These three are from a sight-seeing expedition to Covilhã, with stops in Castelo Branco and Castelo Novo.  I made an accidental double-exposure but I realized my mistake so I retook both views.  The tower of the mother church of Castelo Novo as seen from the castle: vertical, horizontal and combined.

Crown Graphic 23, 105mm Tominon lens, Tri-X, ID-11.  Scanned on a Epson XP-235 "all-in-one" flatbed scanner with an iPad and LightBox app as a back-light source and negative flattener.

Happy St. Swithun's Day everyone...

Blaxton, I'm generally not a huge fan of doubles, but I'm glad you posted that one. Knowing that it was accidental makes it more appealing for some reason. I have two more of the Geisel Library. These are on expired Kodacolor VR 620 (thanks Bryan), taken with a flipped Argus Super Seventy-five.

Nice job with the Kodacolor James, especially considering how old it was!  Fed 3 with a Jupiter-8 acquired in a trade, thanks James.  The film is Ilford Pan F Plus 50 developed in Beer.

I don't think this boat is seaworthy.

This was shot wide open in relatively low light to see how the Jupiter performs, I'm happy with it.

Nice photos everyone. James, your inverted lens photos are really interesting. Lovely portraits, Irv. Manuel, I'm glad that you're happy with your self-made camera. :)

I've also got two pictures shot in the Peak District.

Really nice stuff this weekend. Kevin's metalwork, Miguel's neon (I'm a sucker for neon), and Manuel's Velvia pano are particularly compelling.

Mine is another from Berlin. I'm going to get a photo essay started later today, but for now here's another appetizer. Leica IIIc, Elmar 50/3.5, HP5+ @ 1600 in Caffenol C-L:

ManuelL and Cs1, those are exceptional! You've both really captured the essence of the Peaks. Especially that picture of Stanage. I recognised it immediately.

I am so sorry I didn't get chance to show you around. Still at the other end of the country, sorting through my friend's possession and finding her kids somewhere to live.

Chris, don't worry about not being able to make it. I think that you're doing something very important and I'm sure that your friend's kids appreciate that you're taking care of things. We were glad that you proposed Beeley Moor. It was an excellent location.

I normally don´t care much for landscapes, though I tend to shoot them myself - go figure. cs1 "Lonely Tree at The Roaches", wow! I can hear the wind and smell the grass. Love it!

Thanks a lot for the kind comments! I shot quite a lot of film in the Peak District (at least by my standards), just finishing the scanning now.

O2pilot, love the geometry of your shot emphasized by the high contrast. CS1, the lone tree turned out great!  :)
And David, the tones of your little garden scene want to make me try more FP4.

I haven't done any photography recently. But I have my film from the holiday I took just before Helen died.

This is the pier at Whitby. Love it. The perfect seaside town.

A couple more from last night. I've been sick all weekend long, however, I decided to take a walk around Philly at midnight, and headed towards Penn's Landing. I didn't have a tripod, however, I used my knee as partial support for my elbow... As in shooting an M-4. Kodak Tri-X 400, shot at 400, developed in Ilfosol-3.

Shot this at the end of May, but only got around to developing it last weekend. Agfaphoto Vista Plus from Poundland, shot in an Olympus EE2, and developed in a 'Rollei Colorchem C41' kit

Lifeguards on patrol by Antony Shepherd, on Flickr
Pretty annoyed about the Colorchem kit. Films I've developed with it have been way too muddy - even the frame spacings have been so dense that the scanner software would struggle to find the frames. Even increasing the blix time didn't help. The denseness of the negs also means they don't scan well.
Am going back to Tetenal chemistry as I've never had any problems with that.

I just love how old it makes the photo look....
Probably the best old picture imitation I've seen in a very long time.

I know what you mean... Which makes me wonder how common were Ortho films for regular work, including portraits, bitd (and when is bitd exactly?)

Ortho film hasn't been produced for regular photographic work in a very long time... From what I can tell the last time it was used as such was probably in the mid 1930's... I'd have to go through my old Kodak literature to be sure.
