Let's say I'd be going to the Peak District in England. And let's say that I had three cameras with me (1x 135 (an old but robust SLR), 1x 120 (6x6; a TLR), and 1x 120 (6x9; a foldable camera)) - which film should I bring (and why) and what would you recommend I'd shoot with it?

Portra 400 (135 and 120) - beautiful, neutral colours and it scans beautifully / converts to mono exceptionally well. No need to mess with ISO settings. I usually expose it at 200 or 320.

Good advice, cheers! For the 120 cameras I'm also going to take Fomapan 400 which is brilliant because it's very forgiving in terms of exposure and it has a lovely tonality and grain. I'm also thinking about Velvia (either 50, but more likely 100) which isn't as neutral as Portra but I think that it might be a good for pictures around the gritstone crags to give the greens and also the grit some punch. Would you say that the Portra works well for sunsets?

I live there! My favourite film is probably Ilford XP2. But then, I used it before I moved! Drop me a line if you are passing Belper.

Portra 400 should be very suitable for sunsets. It's not going to give such vibrant colour straight off the scanner as, say, Velvia, but because of the very wide dynamic range you'll stand a good chance of maintaining some detail in the foregound, without resorting to graduated filters.

Dents is a proper independent camera shop that has been in the centre of Chesterfield since 1905. Price about the same as most places on the Internet, inexplicably. And they have a real wet lab still. Can you tell I am a fan?

Go on a Thursday, so you can have a wander round the ~~tat~~ fleamarket.

Unfortunately, 1st/2nd is the only weekend that ManuelL and I are both there. However, the 24th/25th would also work for me but ManuelL won't be there yet. Any afternoon around 1st/2nd would also work for us (we're on holiday

I'm also sorry that you couldn't make it. And I'm sorry for the sad reason. I hope that things get better soon.

We went to the exact parking spot that you chose and went through the wood down to Beeley and back up through the fields. The weather was brilliant. Irv and Manuel shot large format, I shot medium format (so did Manuel in between large format shots) and I also shot 35mm.
