Really interesting, Carlos - thanks for posting.  These people were (are) artists.  I used to print my own in the early 80s and I had  go at "spotting" prints - primarily dust removal and minor scratches.  It's really important for weddings and exhibition prints but I never attempted anything as complex as the work on the photos in the article.
