My photos of my old car on Petrolicious.
« on: March 04, 2017, 09:17:07 AM »
I know, I've taken far too many photos of my car when trying out old cameras. But they've finally been put to a (good?) use. For an article on the Petrolicious webzone: http://petrolicious.com/how-to-appreciate-and-drive-the-saab-95

Most of the photos were taken with either a Leotax Semi R, or a Eastar TLR, with a couple from the Pilot 6 and one from the Kodak Hawk-eye to keep things interesting. There are a few digital shots in there too... but it's mostly film.

I'm not a petrolhead, but that was an excellent read.

Saab 95. We don't see to many of those around here anymore. Too bad because they were really something built to last with all their mechanical quirks.

Interesting read, and great photos as well. That freewheel thing sounds interesting.

Funny, I just saw an ad for one of these and was thinking it would be an interesting car to own. I do love me some Euro wagon. Too bad cars like that have all dissolved up here in the road salt capital of the world.
Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Still, all SAABs are an experience in themselves. I remember the model with the sliding hood and car key in the center console.
They also all have the reversed engine (crank comes out the front).

Too bad they were so underappreciated... they were the car of choice of architects.

A friend and former colleague of mine used to rave about how good Saabs were.  He had "modern" ones and they seemed very well made.  However, one he bought had a very pale waxed(?) pine dashboard that made it look as if it'd been fitted out at IKEA.

In 2004 a Latvian Lorry (Volvo F12 I think) side swiped me and the family at around 70 mph on the M25 near Clacket Lane.  Shunted us up on a bank past the hard shoulder.  People stopped and couldn't believe we were all fine and dandy.  It was a later '98 GM based 900SE Talladega 2.3 with added side protection that came in very handy.  170k miles on the clock.

Loved that car :-)

Had an old '76 94 once too, liked it but horrible Ford V4 engine.

There's still a few people in the province who specialize in fixing them.
They all say that the cars are a joy to work on. You can very easily remove the entire front end to work on the engine and then put it back on. All you need are two people to make it easier.

When they used to race in the rally championships, they had to put some roll bars on the cars even though it was completely unnecessary! Talk about safety. You don't see that in today's GM cars (they have a recall at least once a week... one of them was for a brake pedal bracket that broke leaving the pedal dangling under the dash!)

Ha! I was having my coffee, looking forward to summer and surfing around the Petrolicious site the other day. All of a sudden - "I have seen that thing before!" Nice read, love the car and you made some great portraits of it. Hello from 92a, smoke trumpet.

Brilliant car. I remember my dad's 99. Not a "proper" Saab like yours. A great big tank of a car, with massively thick steel panels.

It cost £200.
