2018? Are you in a hurry, Kevin? Nice work, by the way.

I'd be quite happy to fast forward to 2020 so that America can attempt to right the wrong it committed in 2016 :(

Kevin, how was the toning accomplished in that photo?

I have something to contribute this weekend. Nice! February 2017, near a frozen lake in deepest Surrey. Bronica S2A with instant back and some very expired Polacolor 125i. Scanned and then zapped with 'auto levels' in Photoshop. Without auto-levels the print was mainly yellow. Well, extremely damn yellow...in fact call Coldplay because this film is suing them over that song.

Ok, newbie question regarding the weekend threads: what are the rules? :) From what I can gather, the photos presented weren't necessarily taken or even developed that particular weekend. In other words: does it matter when the photos were taken/developed? Do I simply post any photo if I think "well, this would be a nice weekend to show this particular photo"? :)

Hello and welcome to Filmwasters.
Yes, that's pretty much what we do, and if you go to the thread on the main page here you will see that we did a book of weekend thread photos about five years ago.
You can look at the book, and on page six, there is an introduction by Skorj, who started the original " What did you shoot this weekend" thread.
It took on a life of its own, and has continued to what you see now.
It's  fun and something to keep the FW community in touch with what everyone that wants to share their photos has done recently.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, Becky. :) Ok, let's see: the following photo is from a while ago (it's not as frosty anymore). I took it on a field near our house with my Canon A-1 using Ilford Delta 100, developed using Tetenal Ultrafin T-Plus.

Thanks, Becky. :)

I really like the other posts. Especially your HP5+ photo caught my eye, O2Pilot -- did you expose it at ISO 400 or did you pull it? It looks so "ungrainy". :) I'm a big fan of the HP5+ especially when it's been pushed to ISO 1600. For some strange reason the grain is much more pleasing @ ISO 1600 than @ ISO 400 in my eyes. I love it for low light shots that have lots of texture.

I shoot HP5+ at either EI 200 or EI 1600; that was at 200. I'm a devotee of the "over-expose and under-develop" school. The full-size scan shows some grain, but it's small. I tend to post-process in a way that tries to preserve the grain without exaggerating it. Caffenol seems to do quite well with HP5+ as far as limiting the grain; even pushed to 1600 it's really not bad.

Though Caffenol's not represented in it (too many variables), take a look at the link I posted over in the Articles subforum on film and developer comparisons. There's quite a bit of variance depending on what developer you select.

Hard to pick a fave but I must admit being very partial to Irv's Dungeness boat scene.

Another couple from Bologna from me: Leica MP + Ilford XP2 Super.  I'm pretty sure both of these were via the 35mm Summicron.

Beautiful start Kevin! I'm going for colour this week, but with a film that I really dislike. First I tried shooting the expired Kodak Ultra 400 at ISO 200, but that turned out really bad. This time I've shot it at box speed, and the result is grainy and dirty, if not to say shitty. I suppose it could easily turn into a distinct style, a sort of doom and gloom photography. Here are two of the better frames.

Contax G2 / Zeiss Sonnar 90mm f2.8 / Expired Kodak Ultra 400

Sorry that expired Gold didn't work out for you Kai. I shoot in-date Gold at 1600 and push it in C41 and it looks great (to me). Super contrasty and punchy colors. I even shot some expired Gold 200 at 800 and got the same result. But yours may be too expired to try that.

I'm also really surprised it didn't turn out as I regularly expose some ten year old Gold at sometimes less than half of box speed and it just works. Could have been expired chemicals, really badly stored film or a host of other things.

Well, I suppose I should not complain too much as I got these films for free. They expired in 2005 which should not be a problem. I don't think I can blame the lab either since everything else I get from them is ok. How they were stored before they came into my possession I do not know, they have been in my fridge for the last two years. Next time I will shoot it at 800 ISO, if that does not help then it's stand development in Rodinal next.
Kai

Usually on negative films, the less exposure you give them the more brown they get. So at 800 should be extra brown tone.

I would personally try them at EI 100 or even EI 50

So on Friday 3rd I had a day off and headed down to Brighton, taking my recently acquired Spotmatic F with me and a roll of HP5+, and tried to shoot some things a bit different. Of course, this was tempered with a good long walk and a few interesting stops for good beer with some opportunities to shoot wide open.
Am dead chuffed with the Spotmatic, meter OK, shutter OK, frame spacing OK and no leaks. Now all I need to do is get a few good lenses to go with it.

Here are five.  (It's a large number, I know.)  The first four are from a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA where I tried out a new-to-me Ricoh 35.  The fifth is a coffee shop at an artists collaborative studio and gallery—The Mad Dog—in Pawtucket, RI.  I include it because all five were from the first two rolls (Tri-X) I have developed in Caffenol.  Thank you, Reinhold, for the inspiration and information about Caffenol.  I think that I am now converted.
