19th century camera wanted for a movie prop
« on: February 28, 2017, 11:00:25 PM »
Does anyone in the UK have a late 19th century wooden 1/2 or 1/4 plate camera they could loan out for a few days for an indy movie shoot.  I'll be the actor so it will be under my guard the entire time.  Doesn't have to be in working condition, just needs to look the part.

Royal Mail Special Delivery paid both ways, obviously.  Needed mid-March.  8)

Hi

Mine is a turn of the century (so I'm told - it's nameless) wooden half plate with brass lens and correct period lens cap. It's a tail slider job. I also have a later wooden tripod, but at a glance, it would read as period-correct for a gentleman's outfit for outdoor use. It certainly isn't a heavy studio rig.

I can send you some d*g*t*l snaps of it if you'd like to have a look.

Hi David - yes please, message me some digi snaps of the camera.  Tail-sliding sounds good as they were made over quite a long period - we're aiming for mid 1880s.

I have a wooden tripod, like yours probably later, but this one will no doubt pass.

Will do. I also have a focussing cloth, but it is distinctly non-period red lined.

Sandeha, I'm intrigued.  When the movie is complete, will it be on general release or, if not, how will we be able to see you "in action", so to speak...? ;)

It's an indie production but I don't have details yet.

Problem resolved and a loan camera has been sorted.  Thanks to all for thinking about it.

A short clip of a 19th century wooden view camera in action.  It looks like a Meagher half-plate to me, at least the body design is very similar to one I worked on a few years ago, but either way, it was perfect for the style and period. The clip will be an introductory overhead projection shot for The Sudden Madness of Friedrich Nietzsche which will be performed at The Winchester, in Bournemouth, on Weds March 29th from 7-9 (if anyone happens to be in Bournemouth and is interested in the final days of Nietzsche's life  ;) ).
