Filmwasters: August Stats
« on: September 21, 2007, 12:05:15 AM »
I just had a quick look at the stats for August 2007 and here are some of the headlines.

Totals
In August we had a total of 7700 visits from 2042 unique visitors and averaged 248.39 hits per day.

Most Popular Day
Tuesdays averaged out as the most popular day with a total of 2279 pages on Tuesdays across the month.

Length of Visits
24.9% of visits lasted longer than 15 minutes of which 12.1% lasted more than an hour.

Countries
People visited from 26 different country categories (including 'Other' and 'Unknown'). Here's the top ten:

01. United States (with over ten times more visits than from any other country)
02. European Country (as discussed previously, I have no idea what this means)
03. Great Britain
04. Japan
05. Australia
06. Canada
07. Unknown
08. France
09. Isreal
10. Germany

Top Ten key phrases used on search engines:
ricoh gr1
damion rice
betting
introduction
filmwasters
grasstrack
xxxxy
wai wai reload
seiko
gjon mili and picasso

Filmwasters use the following computer operating systems:

Windows XP - 66.2%
Mac OS X - 15.1%
Windows Vista - 8.2%
There was some Linux too - mainly Ubuntu - and one single hit from someone running AmigaOS!

The stats re search engines are actually pretty surprising with Yahoo! pipping the Google by quite some margin:

Yahoo! - 43%
Google - 25.3%
Windows Live - 22.3%

The top ten phrases on search engines strikes me as strange...

Is it our search engine or all the others combined?

But still, no matter what, here's what I noticed:

Damion Rice ahead of xxxxy (I can see the screaming girls at Damion's door :) )

grasstrack  ??? ??? ??? ahead of Picasso  ??? ??? ???

And my cheers go the the guy running AmigaOS (I never met a girl geeky enough to still be running that thing... on the up side, no virus or spyware problems for him :) )

My wife and I think that the Damion Rice search is for people misspelling the pop singer Damien Rice's name...but we could be wrong. Our Damion is a god after all.

Great idea Jonas. Here you go; stats from February 2011 (not the best month to use for stats since it's shorter than the others, but this isn't about securing advertising revenue ;D):

Totals
In February we had a total of 36447 visits from 12943 unique visitors. Those figures show an increase from 2007 of between 500%-600%. Wow!

Most Popular Day
Monday appears to be the most popular day, but it's actually a pretty even spread with between 27,000 and 32,000 hits per day across the week.

Length of Visits
22% of visits lasted longer than 15 minutes of which 11.5% lasted more than an hour.

Countries
People visited from well over 100 different country categories (including 'Other' and 'Unknown'). Note that 4 years on the USA and the UK are almost level pegging, but with the USA slightly ahead. Geekery:
Good to see Firefox come out way in front!

Slightly disappointed to have Linux at only 3.7% (I'm being hypocritical here as my fun computer which i use to visit this site is OSX, but still- Windows? Download Ubuntu- you'll like it! (my work computers are all linux))

   "Windows 3.xx   0%   205"- really?- that's cool! Maybe not terribly secure tho…

Disappointed there's no Amiga OS this time around...

(sorry- end of geekery)

Well... I don't know but since it won't run NT code, it's probably better than we think...
Besides, just consider the machines it's running on :)

Only 4 running classic Mac OS... disappointing.

And no BeOS machine...

I love stuff like this so it's a surprise that I don't run these stats checks more often, but there's loads here that interests me (both from the perspective of one of the people who runs the site, but also as a an IT geek who's interested in Internet and other computing trends. The Google surge is astonishing for one thing. For another, I have a sneaking suspicion that Francois accounts for around 95% of all page views from Canada which would put him squarely atop the "Individual Visits"  leader board!!
 :D :D

Erin: You're right, BTW. I too was astonished to see how much more traffic we are getting 4 years on.

I also thought about this but didn't want to brag about my Super-Dooper High Speed internet connection (actually my cable modem is so old it still runs on coal!)  ;) ;D

Now, I have to find a way to access the site using some oddball OS and browser so I can throw the whole stats off  ;D

This is fascinating, I too love this stuff, and often (sadly) wish I has a stats page for my own life :-p, like how many steps have I taken?

Congrats all on the huge increase in visitors, that rocks!

Maybe you should do a filmwasters pioneer card scheme and once you have recruited 500 people and visited the houses of the top 100 posters you get a metal filmwasters badge with your name on it.
