It's not the weekend but I say it is 2015-09-17
« on: September 17, 2015, 10:58:03 PM »
Yep, I know it's not the weekend yet but I got two rolls back from the lab which forced me to leave a sizable part of my bank account at the store (yes, they raised prices yet again) so I couldn't wait to show some pictures from it.

Personally, I don't know if it's the price I paid that lowered my appreciation but I'm a bit disappointed in the results that I feel lack some dynamism... But at least it was an enjoyable day and a nice train ride (I had a free pass :) )

I hope you will enjoy them anyways.

You could develop your color negs at home. I can write an article how I do it, if wanted. It's easier than doing b/w!

Good call, Francois.  It's a good set of photos that work well together.  I particularly like the two businessmen; the shot has a neat geometry to it that draws me in.

Reinhold: yes please!  I like the results I get with Unicolor but if there's a better way I'd love to try it.

Thanks to you all.
Jonas, this was shot on some epired Kodak gold ultramax 400. I had it in my freezer for a very long time, I think it expired in 2010... I'll have to check. I exposed it at 250 but even with that contrast was fairly low.

Reinhold, I'm going to have to start doing it at home that's for sure. I know of a place where I can get the chemicals fairly cheap (argentix.CA) so I'll have to place an order with them.
And I'm going to start looking for storage bottles for it. I already have a digital thermometer that reads fractions of a degree so that's a good start.

BTW, the Lennon and Ono picture is for the music geeks. I actually went to the hotel where they staged their bed-in :)
Pretty nice place I should add.

Francois, you don't need all that high tech stuff like digital thermometer etc. Works perfect at any room temp with adapted time. More soon, but not today.

More of the last rool shot with the now broken Big-Mini. Kodak Gold 200 in homebrewed C-41 dev at room temp.

I've been playing around with the KMZ FT-2.  Shot on Ilford PanF Plus 50 and developed in beer.

After all my effort I still have a streak of light showing up in the upper left.  I'm thinking it's a flare or reflection from within the camera since it seems to show up in the same spot every time.

Nice panos, Bryan!

I agree!!!
I always liked those swing lens cameras and what they produce.
The spot could be either a light leak on the bottom right or some internal flare. The only way to know would basically be to tape it really good and shoot it upside-down for a frame. If it's a leak, it should go away. If it's flare, it should change place.

Personally, I'd look for something shiny inside the camera as I doubt it comes from the lens since it moves during the exposure. If it was a lens problem, you'd see a streak instead of a spot.

francois: a-HA! I suspected it was that room :D thanks for sharing

reinhold: nice framing in that shot! limited color palette and many lines makes me happy too :)

bryan: I am amazed by these beery good results!
how wide is that camera anyway? I might be seeing things but the shots seem longer than from the horizon models

kai-san: lovely shot with the reflection in the water :)

Thanks for the compliments everyone.  Francois, That's one problem with this camera, there are a lot of ways for light to bounce around inside.  I'm making a few more modifications that may help.  One problem is I don't have the film canisters that this camera uses.  They were made special for this camera and are very hard to come by.  Some say you can't use the camera without them but I would disagree.  I just have to load the film in a changing bag and figure out the light leaks.  I'm pretty happy with it so far.

The Horizont and Horizon give you 24mm × 58mm frames, the FT-2 gives you 24mm x 110mm frames, so yes, quite a bit wider.  They both give a 120° view.

what you definitely need to do is set it for a vertical shot on the ground using a tabletop tripod and place yourself so that it starts scanning by your feet. When you trigger it, jump over the camera. It will capture your feet on the ground and part of the leg that somehow dissolves into nothingness... you can get a ton of effects like that with swing lens cameras :)

I also want to shoot some cars driving by to see if they get shorter or longer.  I saw a handheld shot of the Space Needle that looks like it's bent.  So much fun stuff to do with it.

Here's a montage I did for a contest that Ray Larose is running. The challenge was to tell a story in 4 frames without any words, so I shall remain true to that theme by explaining nothing. Click through to the Flickr page if you want info on the films & cameras and a little teaser on the story (though, I intentionally made it quite obvious).

I've been catching up to my film developing backlog.  These two are from a trip to Portugal in July.  They were made in my Rollei twin-lens on Tri-x and developed in Xtol.

Ruins of ovens like these can be found many places in Portugal, especially in the Beira Litoral where limestone is plentiful.  Now, houses are made of hollow clay brick but, until fairly recently, they were made of limestone adobe, fired in ovens like this.

A little coverage problems, but not totally undesirable.
Super Cambo, 90mm Super Angulon, Ilford Delta 100 4x5, shot at 50 ISO, Rodinal 1:50 developed at n-1, red and orange filters.
