Wherein limr and 02Pilot go to Maine
« on: June 26, 2015, 06:20:06 PM »
It's one of my favorite places on earth and we got to stay there for 10 days at the beginning of June. We stayed first in what is known as Downeast Maine - a hop, a skip, and a jump from Acadia - in a little B&B just 75 feet from the water. Heaven!

The B&B is on a large expanse of land which also houses the barn for the owner's rams and goats.

And the lupins were in bloom:

The weather was quite chilly at the start of the vacation, which I personally didn't mind. I did need to hit the L.L.Bean outlet to buy a fleece vest because I hadn't anticipated that the layers I packed wouldn't be warm enough, but knowing how uncomfortable I'm going to be for the rest of the summer, I didn't care. I still love that I needed to wear fleece in June!

Then it got hot...

I haven't gotten to my black and white shots yet, and there are some more color shots that I have scanned but not edited yet.

In the meantime, it's 02Pilot's turn!

For whatever reason(s), I didn't shoot as much as I expected to this trip, so I won't have my usual volume of photos with which to bore the viewing audience. Here's a few from the first leg of the trip, all with the Leica IIIc and Summitar on FP4+ in Caffenol C-H(RS).

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Thanks. Apparently my lack of ability to hand-hold at very slow shutter speeds is an artistic asset. Who knew?

These are really really nice!   :)
Now I want to go to Maine!!!
The color is lush, what is that, Ektar?

It's always nice to see different viewpoints of the same place too.

I hope to see more!   8)

Thanks Becky :) You should definitely visit Maine! The coast is just gorgeous.

I actually was shooting Agfa Vista for the first set I posted, which I've really come to like quite a bit. The one of the dog was Portra 400 in my Yashica D. Some of the second set were shot on expired Kodak Gold (100 or 400). I had to do some color correction on those because they scanned quite green, but the colors were under there somewhere.

They spelled "lobstah" wrong.

Silly New Englanders and their fancy spelling!

A couple of shots from my 1933-vintage Rolleiflex on Ektar.

Wait, do they pronounce their r's in Maine? I can't remember, I'm just a Masshole (which, btw, apparently made it into the OED? My head is literally exploding, by the OED definition of literal which means figurative  ??? ::) :P  :'( )

Nah, not really. The Downeast accent is pretty funky, though. It shares some of the Masshole accent characteristics in terms of individual sounds but it has a different cadence to it. Language is fun :D

(And yeah, once a word makes it into general use for a certain amount of time, it makes it into the OED. Its mission is simply to describe the language that is in common use, not to make any judgments on it. Inclusion in the OED really just means that "They" have decided a word isn't just a passing fad that will die down in a couple of months, but has become entrenched enough that it should be part of the record. </linguist geek> )
