Baguio, the summer capital
« on: June 11, 2015, 01:31:40 PM »
It has been a while since I posted an essay so here goes.

Baguio is a city known for its cooler climate. In which is the one of the main reasons many tourists flock during the summer vacation. However you can visit it at any time of the year and for us Filipinos the best time will be when it is coldest (Dec-Feb). It gives them the chance to bring that unused jacket or sweater you have bought years ago. In any case that you miss bringing one. There are a lot of thrift shops selling second hand weather gear.

Aside from thrift shops, streets are almost closed up during the night because of the "Wagwagan" (a play on dusting off dirt from clothes) sellers. Clothes, shoes, electronics are normally sold cheaper than the usual prices. Food are available to from either side of the street.

What I love about the city besides of its tourists spots will be walking during the wee hours. It brings out a certain kind of atmosphere in where you can grasp what the city feels like decades ago.

This was a series that I submitted for a local zine that did not get picked. All photos shot with a Minolta Freedom Escort QD and Eurocolor 400 film.

I'll second what Satish said, that's a beautiful shot.  By the way, I'm just across the Philipine sea from you right now working in Rota and Saipan.  I find it hard to believe there is anywhere around here that would warrant a jacket for me since I'm used to a much cooler climate.

Thanks guys.

Never been to Saipan but heard good things about it. I think a US Visa is required to visit and something I haven't renewed for a long time.

I forgot to tell you that it is in a mountain region. In where during the summer time temperature is in around 68F. That would be cooler to most people who aren't used to the cold. Mind you it still hot though when the sun is out the wind breeze is just better than the humid metro. Lows during (Dec-Feb) will be around 55-58F.
