UK Platinum print exhibition
« on: August 27, 2014, 09:50:36 AM »
Excuse the blatant self promotion but I've got a 50 image platinum/palladium print exhibition starting this Nov 8th (Saturday), details below, all welcome, there will be wine and nibbles etc

Its actually on the forest so if some FWs want to get together there is an opportunity for some photography in the am, exhibition in the pm and then maybe pub/meal after - anyone interested?

I've been invited by the RPS to be a selector in their Visual Art exhibition on the Saturday... will you be there on the Sunday as well??

No definite plans for either the Saturday or Sunday at this point but, if you and Paul Mitchell are likely to meet up on the Sunday, please count Lara and myself as "in".

(Make that there, not three. I'm actually 43 one week before, so not that strange a thing to say, or maybe it is just weird, not sure)

Dave, your stuff always looks great and I would love to see it in the flesh versus reduced down to pixels in my screen. But I am on the wrong side of the Atlantic. ;-)

Good luck it looks like it will be great to see.

I know. And when I think some people once planned to make a tunnel from NYC to London........... I so wish this had become reality.

Hope the opening went well, and all the best for the rest of the run, Dave.

It's a good long run, so no excuses, I'm certain I'll make the effort to hop over the county line for a look before the exhibition ends. From what I've seen, I'm sure it'll be well worth the effort.

I was there on Sunday at 11am with Dave arriving 5 minutes later... unfortunately the warden with the key didn't! After a flurry of calls it transpired that there was a big memorial event in the forest (it being remembrance Sunday) and that the doors weren't likely to open until 2pm! After a very nice pot of coffee and an enjoyable hours walk around one of Mr Higgs favourite woodland locations we eventually gained access! It was well worth the wait though. I have admired Dave's work for some time (as have we all!) but only via a monitor or ipad, to see them in the flesh is something else. There are very few times that I come away from an exhibition of another photographers work feeling inspired... this was one of those times!!

The exhibition is on until April next year so encourage all those that live in the South East to visit, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Or we could even arrange a FW meet up in Ashdown Forest!??

Here are just 12 of the prints (apologies for the digital snap), there are another 39 of the beauties.

Last week was a royal pain in the jacksy, work-wise, and I'd sort of promised myself that Lara and I would make a stealth appearance at the exhibition - at the appointed hour of 11am.  However, Sunday arrived and I woke up with an almighty "frozen shoulder" which was so painful I could barely hold the sppon to eat my Wheaty-Pops let alone drive the 200 mile round trip. Gutted.

However, the exhibition looks stunning and I am definitely aiming to get to see it before the end of its run.  An FW meet in the New Forest sounds like a great idea and, as ever, I'd be up for that.

The New Forest is also a very nice place Paul but in the wrong location for Dave's exhibition...  ;)

Hope the shoulder gets better soon... acupuncture cured mine BTW.

I am working in the morning in East Sussex  (Burwash) so hopefully I can pop in and marvel at Dave's exhibition prints.

Lara and i finally got to see the exhibition.  We pitched up at the Forest Centre 5 mins before it opened and had a really good look at these inspirational prints.  We then had a bit of a wander around the bit of the forest immediately adjacent to the Forest Centre and took a few photos of our own.  Weather was a bit naff but the exhibition was really inspiring to the point where we're thinking about spending a couple of nights down there so we can get up mega-early and catch a bit of frost, mist, early morning sunlight as the forest seems a special place.

Really excellent work, David, and even better in real life than on the screen.

Went to Ashdown Forest today (managed to slip in and out of Sussex without being seen.. ;)) and got to see Dave's wonderful work. I don't think I've ever seen platinum prints before... beautiful tonality.

Had a couple of hours walking around just a small part of the forest, which is a stunningly beautiful area, but one that I found quite tricky to photograph. It's a testament to Dave's skill that he can distill such serene compositions from something as random and visually chaotic as woodland.

Excellent exhibition, Dave. I hope it was successful for you.
