yet more film kickstarter stuff
« on: July 29, 2014, 02:25:24 PM »
I am not sure how many more cheap pinhole camera kits we need, but at least this one looks cute. Tho it is kind of lomo-esque in its pricing (30 pounds for a cardboard kit). But I understand no one is gonna get rich on this thing (the cardstock it all hand screened etc) and it is as much a "craft/art product" where putting it together and appreciating its craftwork (as much as card stock can have that) is as important as using it. I am not intending to be snarky/pissy with that comment as I have no probs with those sorts of kits (and have probably done a few in my time).

I guess it is the big brother of a cardboard TLR I never heard about

As far as I'm concerned, I find it too bad that they're made from cardboard. I know I've got plenty of cardboard box cameras but I would have liked it  a whole lot better if it was made from thin wood...

Also, why make it a flat plane camera?

Too bad 'cause the design is super cute.

Ya, Francois, it has a really high 'cuteness quotient'. I think that is the 'focus'  ::)

Maybe they should provide some non-round holes to go with it :)

Oh I saw their previous Kickstarter for the TLR pinhole. Very cute design but yeah it is a shame that it isn't made of something a little better than cardboard. Maybe something like the balsam wood airplanes I had as a kid.

Though, if you take the cardboard, fold it accordingly and give it a good coat of varnish (or better yet marine epoxy), it could last a very long time...

That's true. Would you have to do both sides?

I don't think both sides would be necessary. Just the exterior.
This stuff should impregnate the cardboard pretty good so you'd end-up with what is essentially a solid surface.

That's what they use for wood and cardboard sinks...
