Filmwasters Book - Soft Cover edition - FINAL
« on: November 24, 2012, 10:56:55 AM »
Hi All,

Just published a smaller and reduced version (99 now, before 175 pages) of the FWs book. This version also allows soft cover so the price can go down to 36 US $.

As I had to reenter all the data I am going to post the book for 5 DAYS for any comments from FWs members. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THE BOOK YET, I will post the final version in 5 DAYS time.

This is the link http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3765416

Thanks,

Carlos.

That's brilliant work Carlos!  There are a couple of Phil's and Sean's photos that juxtapose really well across the page from each other.  I'd have bought one of the hard cover editions--I'll get several of these.  Many thanks for the hard work and extra effort.

Your are welcome Terry  ;D

Yes, there are some cases when one same photographer covers both pages and it works really nice, it could have been arranged for others but that meant including blank pages or changing the order of the photos  8)

Also one thing to note, im sure if you buy a book it then gives you an option to buy a second for 50% off so you can hook up with a friend for a cheaper deal

Does anyone know how long it takes a book from blurb to be shipped? I'm in the US around christmas and new year. I would like to pick up a copy, but I don't know if I should order my copy before I have actually arrived there.

Yes, facing pages works great. I will look into changing the order of some pictures so we have more matching pictures facing each other.

Glad people likes the new format  :)

Thanks, Carlos; this does indeed look great.

Please let us know when the finished book is ready in this format and we'll spread the word on the blog, FB, Google+ and Twitter etc. If you get a chance could you also make a new eBook version using the soft-cover facing pages design? The older design was weird on a tablet because there were so many blank pages that I kept thinking my eBook reader had crashed  :o when it was actually just another blank page  ;)

Hi all,

I Just posted the final version of the standard landscape FWs book, this one with soft cover goes down to 36$.

I have rearranged some of the pictures, trying to match as many authors as possible, I think it has improved the final result.

I have double checked everything, hope there are no typos or any other blatant mistakes this time..  :P

The link is http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3806211

Enjoy it!  ;D

If no comments are received in a couple of days I will make the electronic version available (I will do it this way because in order to activate the electronic version I have to pay few bucks).

Carlos.

What Leon and the rest said. It looks stunning. I've never had a photo in a book before and I'm chuffed to bits to be in such elevated company. Couldn't be happier.

THANK YOU CARLOS  :)

Please beware that tomorrow morning I will delete the soft cover book and post a new one (identical except for one shot that was zoomed and therefore cropped).

My understanding is that orders from the current book will not be affected when I will delete it tomorrow morning, I will update the link.

Thank you,

Carlos.

I got mine today too - and it all looks superb, apart from my pictures being REALLY dark. The originals aren't that dark at all. I'm a bit disappointed in the blurb repro on mono, the colour work looks superb though. Damion's transfers especially.

I understand bw can be tricky with blurb (and many similar businesses) I think there's even a book out on the pitfalls and workarounds.

I compared on my fantastic new 27¨screen (sorry for mentioning it  ;D ) the pictures sent by the fillmwasters with the ones in the blurb book and yes, some pictures are displayed darker in the Book; no idea why this happens, as it only affects some pictures and others not and I did not modified any colour or B&W settings in the book, I even do not know it that possibility exists.

It could be due to various ICC profiles being used. I religiously use the sRGB color space even though it produces fewer colors than many other profiles and have been happy so far.
