Wouldn't it be nice if the disposable camera came in classic camera shapes?

One thing I'd really like is if they brought back Instant 35mm.

Maybe they'll look at this thread and find some inspiration for their next products!

A One-Shot New55 pinhole could be wasteful-but-fun. :) I still think a TiTAN pinhole and a pile of Ilford-made New55 would make for a very fun weekend.

I'd settle for this, though:

Hey! I think I've just discovered what's going on with Ilford!

When you use all the letters in ilford, you can make the word florid :)

Florid
Adjective

Having a red or flushed complexion: "a stout man with a florid face".
Elaborately or excessively intricate or complicated: "florid operatic-style music was out".

Synonyms
ornate - ruddy - flowery

Well, it is something related to i-l-f-o-r-d is a way...
Not that it's of any interest whatsoever... but it is something new in the sense that I don't think anyone has ever thought of it before  ;D

It's new, doesn't involve the marketing of a new product, can be understandably a delayed announcement in a way, doesn't involve a change in logo, doesn't involve a new mascot, doesn't involve a new corporate acquisition, doesn't require a  countdown, is not the re-introduction of some product that was pulled, can give you points when you play anagrams...

In other words, it fits the bill perfectly  :P :P :P

Hey! It could be a nice name for a redscaled color film! Just imagine loading up with some Florid 100  :o :o :o
Well... Ok... probably not a good idea... so this one goes nowhere and does nothing... Scrabble anyone :) It's worth at least 10 points :)

on the note on IR-film; I saw this posted at http://www.flickr.com/groups/ishootfilm/discuss/72157632227414539/

This was posted to day at APUG:

Reply From HARMAN technology Limited Re True IR Film.

Dear All,

As promised I have the feedback from HARMAN regarding requests to produce a true infra red camera film.

The internal R&D review and commercial reviews have been completed and a decision has been reached.

In relation to R&D, we have previously to 2000 produced a number of emulsion models in relation to a true IR film, whilst significant development work would be required to update those models in relation to current raw material availability since originally worked on, it would be possible to produce a film should a R&D programme be progressed.

The main negative issue is in relation to our own automated emulsion preparation systems that aid 100% batch to batch consistency, this depends on a 'minimum' make that can be coated and / or stored dependant on coated volumes. With an IR film this process control system could not be used as immediate coating is required for an IR emulsion to control levels of base fog which are critical.

Therefore coated volumes produced would be uneconomical against the investment required, in relation to the size of the worldwide market, even allowing for our ability to coat 'small' volumes.

Secondary, to have any hope of reaching a commercially viable coated volume it would also mean that the EXTENDED Red film ILFORD SFX would need to be withdrawn if a true IR film was to be embarked upon. This would go against our stated market position where NO ILFORD Photo product in relation to our monochrome ranges will be withdrawn. ILFORD SFX has a very loyal following, and has unique attributes in relation to architectural photography that cannot be replicated with a full IR film.

The management of HARMAN technology Limited have therefore decided NOT to progress with a true IR film at this time. Our extended red film SFX film in 35mm and 120 roll film will obviously remain in full manufacture and availability.

after reading that . . .
it is a pity they are not going to do a true IR film

but this is very interesting . . .

our stated market position where NO ILFORD Photo product in relation to our monochrome ranges will be withdrawn.

this opens another question and a bit off topic . . .

should we be supporting ILFORD more? as the other major players in the market
have been cutting back on their film ranges.

Although I've been considering Acros as the slow(ish) film I intend to use "exclusively" from 2013 onwards, I'm really encouraged by Ilford's approach and I will be supporting the "home team" for all my B&W work - so long as I can get their film in the format needed (35mm and/or 120).

Well done Ilford. Just a pity they don't have an equivalent of Portra 400 or it'd be a clean sweep.

Yes, that's very encouraging. Especially as they serve the low end market in 35mm with their Kentmere emulsions, too! At least on this side of the pond there's no cheaper ISO 400 to be had. And the ISO 100 isn't that much more expensive than Agfa APX 100. So I will go the "low end" route and buy exclusively Kentmere. Now 120 is a different story ...

Architectural would be great on SFX!
To get an idea of how great it would be, just check out Julius Shulman's outdoor shots. Many of them were shot using infrared. SFX would be a bit similar, but only softer as it is not a full IR film.

Actually, since we dream out loud on this thread, what I'd really love to see is a color film based on the old autochrome process that could give color images when processed in B&W chemicals. This would be a revolutionary process in a way. It would give a one of a kind look that is totally impossible to reproduce. They could do it by making a colored base that contains the RGB colors spread in a stocaistic pattern and coat the film in reverse like redscaled film. This would filter the incoming light making the silver react differently with each spot of permanent dye. It's a bit like the tri-chrome process but with only one film.

Just like anything else I'd suggest supporting Ilford if they provide you with a reason too; in my view they seem to have a "corporate culture" that is committed to film as a medium (and seem to be able to operate a viable business based on that) and a wide range of excellent products at fair prices so I do support them (by buying those products and recommending them to others).

Donkey Dave, that news excites me and clears up some confusion. Since I got back into film, I have wondered why i have not yet been able to reproduce a trivial yet fun action - that of opening an ilford cassette by walloping it and having the lid go sproinging off into the darkness. And here I was just thinking i had lost my groove.

I hate having to find the danged can opener!!! Please Ilford, gimme back those awesome canisters. Comments as to the criteria I value in film welcome but not required ;-p

Haha tintin that sounds worse than a can opener ;)

I want my "whap it against the table and the end flies off" canisters back!! It was as satisfying as pounding a beer bottle lid off with the corner of a rusty piece of farm machinery (rolls eyes at self).

I just use a bottle opener. When you have a good one, you just hook and pry. Takes a few seconds and it works very well.
Mine has a magnet on the back so I can stick it to my squeegee board for easy retrieval.

Now I must say I'd love to have an old Kodak wall mounted opener...

So, I have been thinking about this since like June, but life has conspired to keep me too busy.  This is not something we need ilford for, I don't think.  Can't we create a stochastic pattern of RGB dots in photoshop, print it on a transparency, and shoot the bw negative through it like what the original process used dyed flour grains for? Since we could pack the dots together and not leave any white space, the lampblack would not be necessary and it would be much more viewable,  and as long as we kept everything in register it seems pretty doable!  I don't know there's probably a lot I haven't thought of, but someone who isn't me should try this.  Or I should... eventually :(

edit-  Plus I feel like this is one of the places doing it yourself would be much better, since you could set your own color space on a per-sheet basis.
