This is starting to feel like watching glue set.
You know something interesting is going to come at some point. It's just that the activity is getting to be sooooo slow.

but it's not as slow as watching pitch drop.....

I've heard about this experiment too :)

Watching it is like during the early days of the internet when somebody in Toronto pointed a webcam at a restaurant called Stan's Souvlaki. I've watched it for hours on dialup and never saw anyone go in!

I'm sorry to all. I truly thought I'd be able to spill the beans by now, but there has been a hold up. And, subsequently, this thread has become a force unto itself and I can only think it's all going to be a massive anticlimax

No worries Leon!
It's always fun to have something new come down the pipe, and the guessing has certainly been interesting to read about here.

We will be no less excited when the ball finally drops.    :)

Leon said it wasn't a new product. But when I hinted at a corporate acquisition, he's been more than quiet...
So, my guess is that they're going to buy some company with a round logo that recently ceased production of something...
From memory, Foma recently closed down...

NO, Francois, foma is still running - I think you meant EFKE in Croatia.
Website of sorts, as well as ipernity thing.

From what I've heard Ilford plans the following:

1. Release of the Harman Titan Pinhole 8x10
2. Release of two disposable cameras, filled with either HP5+ or XP2+.
3. Release of some more new products in 2013
4. Ilfochrome will stay in production, but it will no longer be available for home-users.

Ilfochrome is made in Switzerland by Paradigm Global Partners LLP and has nothing to do with the Harman technology which makes all the wonderful  mono materials etc under the Ilford brand from NW England.

A = πr2

Mulling over your circle hint and the warning of an anti-climax leads me to only one possible conclusion ... Ilford will start shipping a plastic exposure meter with the Titan instead of the rubbish paper one?

Without giving away too much ... Here are some selected excerpts from a recent communication I had with the big mono coating machine in the north:

Quote
Progress is a bit slow

Quote
we are now re-visiting some of the work already done which will cause further delay

Quote
our dead-lines appear to keep moving back

News will come forth when it is forthcoming :-)

Ilford are going digital?  The forum will be renamed Pixelwasters and we will discuss how many megapixels you can stick in a Nikon?  Or we can chat endlessly about histograms!

Heaven! ;)

Even if it isn't, it looks like a great little piece of kit. Hopefully, it'll sell by the bucket-load and get B&W film mainstream popular again. Why 27 exposures, though? Size / volume constraints? Price-driven?

It's just that most disposables I've seen were 27 exposures.

But since he was talking about a coating machine, I'm thinking about the re-introduction of direct positive paper which was pulled out of production temporarily due to technical difficulties.

It has nothing to do with a coating machine, other than the fact that ilford own a coating machine.

Are they recycling old fixer, using it to coat underpants and socks, for the silver component to inhibit growth of odour causing microbes?

Do we want our feet and nether regions to smell of old fixer anyway? Come to think of it mine probably do already...
