Topic: Harman Titan in Hong Kong

I've brought my recently purchased Harman Titan 5x4 to Hong Kong on a recent trip, and had loads of fun using it. 

I was absolutely stunned by the image quality by this primitive camera, and it's simple and easy to use.

One thing I've to say though, is I find the lenscap a little bit tricky to take off without moving the camera too much. Making it a bit difficult to take pictures with shorter exposure time.

I once tried twisting the lenscap while taking it off in attempt to keeping it more stable. But clumsily I took the whole pinhole plate off and of course ruining the shot  .... Any tips from you guys would be appreciated.

I've attached a few shots here taken during the trip. Comments and criticism are welcomed. 







Film used are Ektar, FP4+, and Pro160NS. Exposure times are around 12mins for the 1st one, 8sec for the 2nd, and about 20mins for the last one.

Absolutely marvellous!

I think these might be the first colour pictures I've seen taken with the Titan, and they look fantastic.

These are not helping me resist the temptation to buy one!!!

Those are great! One wouldn't have guessed that they were taken with a pinhole camera! And I mean that as a compliment

second one for me. My temptation to use a pinhole camera is to use it in crowded places.

I tend to remove the lens cap and put a finger over the pinhole, then with my other hand remove the dark slide, then gently lift the finger to make the exposure, finger back on, dark slide in, lens cap on, all done

no motion blur on shots

That's the same technique Lomo recommends for their Diana Pinhole.

looking good Kenny - great shots.

I loosen the cap so it is barely sitting on the pinhole holder BEFORE i take out the dark slide.  It is easy then to remove the cap without shaking the camera.

Wow! That second one is brilliant. In shooting HKG streets, I always try and eliminate the modern stuff, and invariably get some late model car upsetting my aesthetic. Here, with your long exposure, you've done a great job on that. Intentional or not.

How long are your exposures? Skj.

Cracking! The second one is particularly nice for pretty much the same  reason as Skorj - difficult to date.

The exposures are:
1st one : 12 mins
2nd one : 8 secs
3rd one: 20 mins

I have just scanned and upload another colour shot from the Harman Titan:
Exposure time was 50mins, film stock is Fuji Pro160NS

Yes, very nice. Pinholes like this, in an urban setting, are winners for me. I have a pinhole for my Tachihara LF, but a Titan is so much more unobtrusive that it's ideal for plonking down on the street somewhere and taking a 'candid' pinhole without too many people getting uptight.

Love the results you are getting and the color shift is nice with the Fuji too!

As far as the lens cap being difficult, I ease mine to nearly off, wait for the camera to settle and then remove it for the photo.  It's gotten better as I've used it more, or maybe I've gotten better at removing it without shaking the camera too much.

 I really like the Titan and think everyone should have one!
