I feel naked ....
« on: January 18, 2012, 09:52:37 AM »
Well - My camera collection is now 1 x 35mmRF and 1 xLF Field Camera lighter. I feel naked. And a 2 month wait until the new Chamonix 054-n2 is built .... it's killing me.  In the short term, here is how it works:

Hey Leon,

That looks like a beauty - I'm sure it will be worth the wait! Try not to think of it as two months but rather "Sleeps".  Just think about it - from tomorrow it will only be 59 more sleeps! On the other hand maybe two months does not seem as long............LOL.

Regards,

Lawrie.

I was out on the weekend with a LFer, and kinda got into the vibe. I can see myself getting there too one day. I might start with a Toyo though...

Looking forward to seeing your results! Skorj.

After reading the OP I had this sudden image of Leon in the buff, protected only by a skimpy RF and a strategically placed Filed Camera.  Came over all whoosy I did.  :)

LOL, yes I remember that video... I must have watched it at least a hundred times before i ordered my 2N   ;D
It's rather good looking, don't you think?

IMG_2156 by Klick-klick-klick,

I have had mine for about a year and it's really good. Build quality is fantastic. I'm a complete noob in this LF world, but this camera is good to me  :)

A shot from it:

Axtorna II by Klick-klick-klick
Old battlefield of Axtorna, not far from where I live, where the Swedes and the Danish fought in 1565. This was then Danish territory and would remain so for another 100 years before it was conquered by Sweden.
It's amazing what you can do with focus with a LF camera. Notice the focus on the tree on the right and the branches in the foreground. Almost everything else is out of focus...

But maybe this isn't the type of post you wanted to see right now?   ;)

It looks beautiful Leon...!

The "light and compact" factor really got me... I rarely take my Toyo out of home because is too heavy.

I've just looked at their web site and they do look incredibly well made, it'll be great to see when it arrives. Maybe you need a camera warming party!  :D

What I find a bit funny about it is when I look at the inspiration they took from so many other cameras. The front standard reminds me of the Gowland Pocket View. The removable back from my Burke & James. Graflock from the Crown Graphic...

It makes it pretty much what I would call a "Best of" in a way.

Exciting :)
That video almost makes it look fairly straightforward (and i know it's not)...like the idea of the film roll back too.
Also it's very beautiful, a work of art in itself.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the Chamonix Leon. I've used them since they first started making them, they are very versatile light and enjoyable to use. I am also an Ebony user but being L/F nutter I couldn't resist the temptation of the Chamonix when they first became available and have had a 45n-1, a 57 and now the 45n-2.

Leon, I'll set you a challenge right here....try and use your fancy pants new camera to take a good picture of my children. If you can do that I'll admit that it's all been worthwhile. If you can't then you have to trade it for my Tachihara. Trees, schmees. Lakes, schmakes. Hills, schmills.

 ;D ;)

p.s.
I have no idea what I'm talking about, or why I've posted really, I just got a little bored of everyone gushing over you and your new camera without anyone being rude or funny. I always thought your Holga work was your best anyway. It's a photography forum, people! Stop being so bl**dy pleasant!!

Bought it at the Japan relief thingy... Never thought it would be from a Chamonix.
It's a totally amazing print and I see it every day.

Magnus,

I'm really pleased you enjoy the the print, I too enjoy it but I've printed so many times
that I am getting a bit bored with it now, printed new edition of 25 last week.
If you want the full size file of the picture posted above just PM me.

great to see it in action jon, and when you were taking such a great shot too.

Have you got any advice on using wide angle lenses on the 045-n2? I have a 65mm that I want to use, and I've read it is possible to focus to infinity without a recessed board, but it's tricky to do ... what's the widest you use with it?

Leon,

You'll have no problems on a flat board with 65mm on the 45n-2. Just push the back standard all the way in to the stops and insert the front standard into the second hole from the rear.
I use a 47XL on a recessed board on the 45n-2 but if was fine on the 45n-1 with a flat one.
