My last couple of rolls generally have been a bit disappointing, but I had great fun with the Vivitar Wide & Slim that Becky kindly sent me. It's a brilliant camera.
These were taken in Skegness. A very down-on-its-heels, depressed seaside town. You can't move in the summer, but it's mostly closed in winter. I love the faded grandeur of Victorian seaside resorts. They are much more interesting out of season.
Oh, and I had fish and chips that would have cost £30 in London. They were gorgeous.

There's precious little from the Victorian era in my neck of the woods, as well. My dad's family emigrated to Southern California by way of Manchester, UK, in 1911. Most of the family was happy in Manchester, except for my great-grandfather who grew to hate the weather and decided that the family would move to the Los Angeles area. Beach-going appears to have been a relatively formal affair in the teens and 20s.
No time this week for photos from me, so a couple from my grandfather, who was the family photographer for his generation. The earlier shot was taken sometime between 1911 and 1915, so a few years after Victoria's death. The picture from Venice Beach (near Santa Monica) is circa 1925, based on the ages of my dad (on the right) and his cousins.

Earl, it looks like beach attire has changed a bit since 1915. These are from my first roll in my new Contax T. I shot them on Fujicolor Superia 1600. The Contax only goes to ISO 1000 so that's what I metered it at. This was my first time shooting Superia 1600 but I have read that some people prefer it overexposed a bit. Nice sharp Zeiss Sonnar on this camera.

Not posted on the weekend thread for far too long... had a little session developing a few rolls of B&W this week.
Three rolls scanned, two more washing as I type.
This is from a roll of Delta 3200. Rated @ 1600 in the Olympus OM4, but I think a little under-developed as the negs from this roll are a bit "muddy".
Encampment of the 18th Regt. Missouri Volounteers at a civil war re-enactment at this year's Ramblin' Man Fair, Maidstone.
When I saw "civil war re-enactment" in the programme, I was thinking Cavaliers and Round-heads... Then I saw the flags... :o Made me wonder if there are any English civil war re-enactment groups in the US. ???

The lost pubs project tells me: The Popes Head was situated at 95 West Street. This pub was present from 1758 to 1939 and was known from 1633 and 1754 as The Four Trumpeters. It was tied to the Meux’s Brewery of London and is now in residential use.
Apparently one of the Jack the ripper suspects, Mr William Henry Pigott, was arrested there on the evening of Sunday 8th September 1888 because he had blood on his clothes. Later found out he had blood on his clothes because he had helped a woman having a foot who had then bitten his hand. This is from the book 'the ultimate compendium of the legacy and legend of histories most notorious killer, jack the ripper' by otto Penzler.

I just finished up a round of test shots on Ilford XP2 @1600 (http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=9434.0). If you have a moment, please head on over to the Photo Essay forum and check out my results. The results truly astounded me, with this one being my favorite, developed NORMALLY in C41, even though it was underexposed by 2 full stops.
