Anyone want to take a shot at figuring out what lens maker this could be?
Is it a true Pentax or other make?
I got it in a box from a friend that had had it in her collection for quite a few years and she did not recall if it was a Pentax or other?
Has engraved serial number on bottom of 213623

Hi Becky.
I doubt I'm going to solve the mystery but I'd put a few bob on that NOT being a Pentax as (a) it doesn't look like any I've ever seen (and I've had a K1000 and a few of the true K-mount lenses some years back) and (b) I'm pretty sure Pentax put(s) its name onto everything it made (makes). My guess would be an independent of some sort and probably a pretty unknown one as the likes of Tamron, Sigma, etc all mark their lenses somewhere.
Thing is, does it work / render okay? If so, no problem - neither the camera nor the film will care.

I tried it out briefly last night with my telescope and then cut the negative out of the camera in a dark bag to check it...
Delta 100 dunked in caffenol for 8 mins.

It's actually kind of cool that the beauty ring is gone...gives it a "rustic" look...
I'm happy! And it's on the K1000 which makes me even more happy!

I have a Minolta zoom lens that has a similar "rustic look".
I've been looking for a way to make it look more unique than just showing the screws...
Round things in the right diameter are pretty hard to come by...

You can find sequins in almost any size. Glue some of those on there! 8)

I thought perhaps it was Ricoh, but the lack of the green 'P" on the aperture ring, suggested it wasn't?

Isn't it lovely to find these little gems? There're so many nice and odd pieces of gear out there. :) I recently came across a Vivitar 2x Focusing Teleconverter for Canon FD. It's such a surprisingly nice and useful piece of gear. Is it perfect? Not in terms of optical quality (though it's still quite good). But in terms of expressiveness of the resulting pictures it's fantastic.
I really like your moon photo, Becky, and I'm glad that you came across this lens. :)

I've seen one of those only once at a camera show. When I saw it I had no idea that these things even existed!

I came by it by chance really. Someone I know asked me to clean his Canon FTb QL, restored its light seals, and repaired its closing mechanism of the back so that he can sell it. He gave me the Vivitar in return. I admit to only having tried it on my A7 with a Canon 50mm f/1.4 -- it's brilliant. Can't wait to try it on my F-1. I hope to find some time (and light) at the weekend.
To go on-topic again: I saw you, Becky, produce wonderful results with all sorts of photographic devices / lenses in other threads and the way your lens just "swung by" (even for one of your favourite systems) reminded me of how I came by the above mentioned Vivitar. I'm looking forward to see what you'll be doing with that lens and I feel inspired to try by myself what I can do with gear that sort of "swings by" like the Vivitar. :) Since the Vivitar seems to have been available for all sorts of mounts I'll try to write something up in another thread as soon as I have explored it a little more.

I'm looking forward to using it more since it's quite compact and has a rustic somewhat "found in the desert" appeal to me.
It's fortunate for many of us to get boxes of strays come our way and then make them come to life again.
We are a lucky lot!
Looking forward to your adventures with the Vivitar too.
