Floored - Ed Wenn
Title: Floored // Interpretation: I didn't want my shot to be a reflection, or to be obscure or abstract. I'm more than happy in front of the camera...and anyway I was going to get to choose which one made the cut. I needed this to be up close due to the lack of a cable release, a self-timer or a ten foot long arm. I wanted it to be identifiably me. Above all I wanted to have some fun taking it. I knew I had about 90 minutes from first thinking about what I was going to shoot right through to taking the photos themselves. Because of other time constraints I also knew it was instant film or nothing. It was 11PM. The kids were asleep and Jacqui was visiting a friend. I set up a standard household lamp on the dining room table, used some white kitchen roll to bounce extra light here and there, got a Land Camera 360 and balanced an old binocular lens in front for close-up capability, ran a couple of test shots to get the best angle of dangle and locus of focus, then poured a cupful of cherry brandy over my head and took 6 or 7 photos. At that point the cherry brandy got in my eyes (the stuff stings let me tell you) and my wife came home anyway so I called it a night and ran for the bathroom. The original idea was to take them at this orientation, but then rotate them 90 degrees clockwise for display to make it look like I was leaning into/hitting a wall. After a couple of days looking at this one in particular I decided I liked it better the was it was taken. I have an almost endless supply of expired Polacolor 125i and was lucky with this batch. // http://edwenn.com
